This report explores how the obligations outlined in the United Nations’ Basic Principles and Guidelines on the Right to a Remedy and Reparation for Victims of Gross Violations of International Human Rights Law and Serious Violations of International Humanitarian Law might apply to Barlonyo, in Uganda. While mourning rituals function to heal emotional and social wounds regardless of circumstance, the mediation of grief is perhaps especially important in times of conflict.
